AUDI background and news
Audi The first car we can considerate as an Audi was produced in 1901 in Zwickau, Germany by August Horch.

The name Audi is based on a Latin translation of the surname of the founder August Horch, itself the German word for ‘listen’.

Horch left the company in 1920 after which majority of shares in Audiwerke AG was bought by Jørgen Rasmussen, the owner of DKW in August 1928.

The Audi emblem is four overlapping rings that represent the four marquees of Auto Union.

The Audi emblem symbolises the amalgamation of Audi with DKW, Horch and Wanderer: the first ring represents Audi, the second represents DKW, third is Horch, and the fourth and last ring Wanderer.

Audi's corporate tagline is Vorsprung durch Technik, meaning "Advantage through Technology".

The first modern Audi, the 100, made its arrival in 1968, followed in 1972 by the 80.

It was the beginning of the extension of the brand but no one could then tell how successful the brand would become one day, particularly in the 90s, when it reached it most popular.

Through the years, Audi has always tried building an image of quality and integrity and its sales have continued to rise. The brands many models continue to grow in popularity and in numbers.

It is considered one of the most profitable and dynamic carmakers in the world.

Audi’s cars are also considered to to be stylish, dynamic, and ever-changing with time.

It has a vast range, from the A3 for those expecting elegance and discretion, to the A4 and A6 for those wishing to travel in high level comfort and security, to the RS6 and R8, which offer sheer driving pleasure.

Audi’s clients are people looking for style and elegance, comfort and muscle, but without undue aggressive.

Green Credentials

As Audi cars tend towards the high-end performance cars which are causes of high levels of pollution, the company has been making deliberate efforts to change this perception by building more fuel-efficient diesels – technology which they demonstrated with the first ever diesel to win at le Mans.

Three of their factories have attained ISO14001 certification.

As part of the VW Group its long-term environmental policies and future developments are shared with VW.
